Cathy Medeiros is vice president, global inclusion and diversity, for Eaton, a power management company.

Medeiros was appointed to this newly created leadership position in 2012 when Eaton established its first office of inclusion and diversity (I&D). She is responsible for providing leadership in guiding Eaton’s global strategy to achieve the company’s strategic business objectives and its goal of being a model of inclusion and diversity in its industry.

Since establishing the I&D office in 2012 under Medeiros’ leadership, Eaton has had many successes around the world that include advancing people across genders and cultures by recognizing, valuing and fully leveraging our different perspectives and backgrounds to achieve business goals. These include increasing the diversity of Eaton’s board of directors to 50% total diversity, and representation among Eaton’s senior executive leadership to 27 percent female and 31 percent minority. Eaton’s strategy for increasing diversity has also been supported through the launch of seven employee resource groups with 17 chapters in six regions with now over 8,000 members. Cathy also spearheaded the launch of a global mentorship program for women and people of color that has allowed over 500 mentor/mentee pairs to connect, build relationships and provide pathways to advancing learning and career development. In addition Eaton’s leaders are required to attend leadership development focused on reaching across differences and understanding unconscious bias. Over 2,200 leaders have completed the full-day session to date. Finally the creation of a flexible working system offering employees the opportunity to work in a way that supports work and life effectiveness, has advanced inclusiveness in Eaton’s culture.

Medeiros joined Eaton in October 2003 as vice president of human resources for Eaton’s Aerospace Group and was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources globally.

Prior to joining Eaton, she worked for Parker Hannifin from 1987-2003, most recently as vice president – human resources, Parker Seal Group. She also served in various HR management roles in Parker’s Filtration and Fluid Power Groups.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational development from the University of San Francisco and an master’s of science degree in business and human resources management from Chapman University.
