Brandy Phipps

Dr. Brandy Phipps currently teaches in the Health, Human, and Public Service Division at Clark State Community College and the Division of Online and Graduate Studies at Union College. In her positions, she is responsible for creating and implementing traditional and online course work in the Biological Sciences, including General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Nutrition. In addition teaching and course development responsibilities, Brandy has served on the Faculty Advisory Board and as a Quality Matters Subject Matter Expert Reviewer, helping other faculty members to make their courses learner-centered and accessible. She also has developed and taught academic programs for middle/high school students interested in health science careers, focusing recruitment on traditionally underserved student populations.

Brandy is dedicated to supporting a diverse and safe environment for all students and, as such, is involved in training and policy development including Safe Space (LGBTQIA), Trauma-informed Care for Survivors, and Diversity Conferences and currently serves as a faculty co-advisor for SAGE, a student LGBTQIA+ equality organization.

Outside of her teaching responsibilities, Brandy is very involved in her community. She currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for Second Harvest Food Bank, a non-profit organization serving individuals and households who are food insecure. She is on the Board of Directors for Project Woman, a multi-county local domestic violence shelter and sexual assault crisis center. Brandy also serves on two local task forces, the Healthy Eating Task Force and the Local Foods Council, both comprised of educators, government officials, non-profit and community leaders, and local business leaders who are dedicated to meeting the health and food security needs of our community. She is a Science Day Judge at the County, District, and State levels, a County Precinct Election Official, and a Grant Proposal Reviewer for state-wide funding agencies. She is also active Zonta International and AAUW – women’s organizations dedicated to empowering women and girls, with foci on advocacy, service, and scholarship.

Brandy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Sciences from University of Florida, a Master of Science in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise (specialization in Molecular Cell Biology and Biotechnology) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU), and her Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at VPI&SU.
