A volunteer leader, at local and national levels, for more than 15 years Porteous has a passion for engaging moments that support equity and access in a variety of arenas.

Porteous is now in his third, two year, term with the Human Rights Campaign, America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality, as a national Board of Governors member–he has served on the San Francisco and Columbus Steering Committees; where he has held roles as Dinner Co-Chair, Corporate Sponsorship Co-Chair, and Federal Club Co-Chair.

His commitment to board work started when he joined the board of directors of Washington, D.C. based Advocates for Youth. At present he sits on the board of directors for Equitas Health, currently serving as Vice Chair; the board of the Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation; and is a member of the Create Columbus Commission. Porteous also serves as a start up advisor through Rev1 Ventures and independently.

In his professional life Porteous serves as marketing/communications & outreach director for the Wexner Center for the Arts at the Ohio State University. Prior to his current role Porteous worked in college admissions/enrollment and marketing communications at schools such as his alma mater, Kenyon College and Stanford University aiding to recruit new students and to tell the respective college’s story to a diverse audience while leveraging and enhancing brand recognition for the institutions. In 2015 he launched DePorteous, LLC consultancy, working with nonprofit and social change organizations, after leaving his role as associate vice president for enrollment operations at Columbus College of Art & Design.

Porteous received his MBA, with a focus in Marketing, from University of Phoenix and Bachelor of Arts from Kenyon College. Porteous resides in Victorian Village with his partner and foster daughter.
