Dr. Nicole Carter is the Director of the Wright State University Women’s Center at Wright State University. She is also a core faculty member in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and African and African American Studies programs at Wright State University.

Dr. Carter has received various degrees, but the most recent were a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a focus on the critical public pedagogical practices of Black women public performers as well as the development of Black feminist radical subjectivities. She also received a M.A. in Women and Gender Studies with a focus on Black feminist epistemology. Both degrees were completed at Eastern Michigan University. While at Eastern Michigan, Dr. Carter taught in the Department of Women and Gender Studies and the Social Foundations of Education program. She also served as a graduate coordinator in the VISION Volunteer Center in the Office of Diversity and Community Involvement. In addition to her academic scholarship, teaching, and service, Dr. Carter was an active member of Detroit’s hip hop and art-based community as a member of the Foundation of Women in Hip Hop. She also started a blog dedicated to helping Black women navigate the doctoral process.

Currently, Dr. Carter is involved in many national organizations, but is extremely proud of her commitment to the National Women’s Studies Association where she serves as the co-chair of theWomen’s Center Pre-Conference Committee, the Women’s Center Committee, the Feminism and Activism Committee, and the Student Travel Grant Committee. Dr. Carter is proud to serve as one of the many Directors of the Women’s Center Wright State University as she is able to add to the long legacy of women’s activism and advocacy in the Wright State community.
