Ronald V. Johnson, Jr. is senior vice president and senior counsel in the KeyBank Law Group, where he counsels business executives and other key decision-makers on emerging legal and regulatory issues associated with doing business online, marketing of consumer products and retail banking strategy. Among other things, Ron serves as the primary legal advisor on matters relating to marketing, digital banking, financial technology (FinTech) and tax-advantaged accounts such as Individual Retirement Arrangements and Health Savings Accounts. Previous roles at Key include serving as Key’s Fair and Responsible Banking Officer and leading the Fair and Responsible Banking, Privacy Compliance and Code of Ethics practices; providing legal advice on matters relating to corporate real estate, fiduciary responsibilities and risk management; and managing Key’s payment operations and Electronic Fund Transfers Customer Support.
Ron’s community and civic involvement includes leadership roles with several local non-profit and professional organizations, including the Black Professionals Association Charitable Foundation, the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, The Phillis Wheatley Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the United Black Fund of Greater Cleveland.
Nominated by colleagues, Ron has been named a rising star in Crain’s Cleveland, Kaleidoscope Magazine and Ohio Super Lawyers. Ron is a graduate of the University of Akron School of Law. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Cleveland State University.
